What is VR? Virtual Reality – or VR for short – is a newer technology that allows people to immerse themselves into a simulated yet strikingly realistic environment. Just as in the real world, a person immersed into a VR experience can move around, discover, and explore the world around them. Unlike viewing a flat-screen or projection in a room, the VR-headset experience allows users to interact within a 3D world. It seems real because it feels real. Using purpose-designed headsets, the user is free to explore far-away and otherwise inaccessible places – all from the comfort of his or her own chair. And – it’s safe. Climb Mount Everest or traverse the glaciers of Antarctica – all without leaving the room.
Explore! VR provides full immersion into life-sciences, fast-paced sports experiences, far-away lands - to inter-planetary or interstellar travel. The possibilities are endless. Yet its appeal doesn’t stop there. VR is used for training and personal development, in education – and in business. Many industry-specific solutions are available – and they generate huge paybacks in delivering a realistic experience – with exceptional levels of knowledge retention. And – of particular importance - VR creates a world of inclusion – whereby anyone, even those with challenges in mobility or other limiting factors can experience the world outside. VR – it’s just like being there.
ClassVR is an absolutely brilliant VR solution available now and it's made specifically for education. It's an order of magnitude above what’s been out there previously - especially in the education space: Imagine an environment whereby the teacher can easily drag-and-drop VR lesson plans and experiences into a browser and share those via VR headsets in the class - all through a simple, point-and-click interface.
It doesn’t replace the work in the classroom - but it really provides some terrific content and experiences to supplement the teachers’ work. We’re seeing huge interest in libraries - and in the classroom.
